South Korea plans to make electronic bracelets for violators of its quarantine rules

The move stems from an increase in the number of people who do not comply with quarantine rules, south Korean prime minister tong-seung-kwan said at a meeting of the central disaster safety response department.

"After careful consideration, the government has decided to wear electronic bracelets for people who violate the self-quarantine rules, such as those who go out without reporting and do not answer their phone calls," Mr. Ting said. "we listened to the opinions of experts and various communities before [making this decision]."

The yonhap news agency reported that the ministry of culture, sports and tourism of South Korea recently surveyed 1,000 adults nationwide, and 80.2 percent of the respondents supported the use of electronic bracelets to track the whereabouts of quarantined personnel.

Such electronic bracelets track the wearer's movements via a mobile phone. As of Thursday, more than 54,000 people in South Korea were in self-quarantine, and more than 160 people were found to have violated the quarantine rules.
